Dr. Giulio Maira is the head of the Cerebrocranial Neurosurgery in the Humanitas Research Hospital. For many years he has headed the Neurosurgery Department in the Catholic University in Rome, and currently he is the neurosurgery professor in the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome. From 2003 to 2014 he was one of the members of the Health Board (CSS) and now he is a member of several committees of the Research and Teaching evaluation Universities Ministry. Dr. Maira studied in Canada, where he was trained by the professor Jules Hardy, leader in the field of pituitary diseases surgery, and then in – Switzerland where he worked with the prof. Yasargil Ghazi, leader in the field of the vascular malformations and skull base tumors surgical treatment. His team was nationally and internationally recognized as a leader in their activity area which is mostly dedicated to the oncological brain and skull surgery (pituitary adenoma, craniopharyngioma, cerebral glioma, meningioma, neurinoma and skull base tumors), intracranial vascular diseases (aneurysms, arteriovenous congenital anomaly, cavernomas), hydrocephalus therapy. Dr. Maira performed more than 13.000 neurosurgeries as a surgeon-in-chief.
