Dr. Diego Ornaghi, Minimally invasive and New Technology Cardiac Surgeon in Humanitas Research Hospital. He was the principal surgeon in over 6000 operations on a variety of major diseases in adults mainly related to the treatment of atrial fibrillation, thoracic aortic surgery, coronary artery bypass grafting on the beating heart and valvular reparative surgery.
His research work is concentrated on issues related to Ventricular Assistance (VAD) implants. He is developing a VAD team dedicated to the problems of heart failure. From 2009 to 2013, he collaborated with University of Louvain and Hanover in the research of a miniaturized VAD CIRCULITE and managing the only six implants in Italy.
Dr. Ornaghi is carrying out minimal-invasive surgeries in the field of aortic surgery (ministernotomy-minithoracotomy) and especially in the treatment of mitral valve becoming the reference center for the minimally invasive technique in HEART PORT. He practices the approach of Percutaneous Valve Implants via transapical in the treatment of aortic diseases and especially in developing new uses of such devices in degenerative cases of biological prostheses in the mitral position.
Dr. Ornaghi has got his degree in 1979 (Pavia, Italy) and specializations in Cardioangiosurgery (Modena, Italy) and Thoracic Surgery (Bologna, Italy) and followed his practice in Circolo Hospital, Varese, Italy. During the period of 1998 – 2001, he was Adjunct Professor in Specialization in Cardio surgery in University of Insubria, Varese, Italy.
