Learning disorders, a new special outpatient clinic in Milan

It is located in Humanitas Medical Care, in Via Domodossola in Milan, and offers an important help to families for the diagnosis and treatment of school difficulties related to learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, dysorthography, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, but also to other learning difficulties such as memory and attention.

The new Humanitas service is managed by Dr. Marcella Mauro, psychologist coordinator of Humanitas Medical Care, who talks about the specificity of the service.

 

How it works and who is the service meant for

The service helps children, adolescents and young adults in their educational and growth path. In addition to providing a diagnosis and certification for Specific Learning Disorders such as dyslexia, dysorthographia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. In the clinic in Via Domodossola it is possible to carry out the diagnostic course in a single day.

Screening is carried out for reading and writing difficulties and prerequisites for learning – explained the doctor -: with this tool is identified, with a good level of reliability, a risk of difficulties in learning processes. Among the services offered there is also the neuropsychological evaluation for cognitive functions, memory, attention, executive functions, language. The subjects are authorized by the ATS Lombardy Region to carry out activities of first diagnostic certification valid for school purposes according to the provisions of Law 170/10.

Finally, the outpatient clinic offers psychological support for children and adolescents and counseling for teachers.

 

Difficulties at school: these are the possibilities

Children and adolescents can have different learning problems. They range from slow and/or incorrect reading, to spelling mistakes and non-fluent writing, to difficulties with attention and memory at school and in studying at home. Children may also have difficulty reading time and remember days of the week or months of the year.
