The term hepatomegaly refers to a pathological enlargement of the liver. The increase in volume can be congenital (i.e. present at birth or due to hereditary causes) or caused by medical conditions (blood stasis, cirrhosis, cancer, amyloidosis, hydatid cysts, brucellosis, amoebiasis, etc.).
