Q:  Can I shower after having undergone breast cancer surgery?

A: Showering is not advised until the first dressing of the wound. Afterwards, showering or bathing is allowed, unless stated otherwise.  To wash the wound, you should use regular soap and water, avoid rubbing  it directly and then pat dry it well. It is not necessary to use betadine (povidone-iodine), hydrogen peroxide or alcohol . The use of creams or antibiotics can cause allergic reactions  and have not proven to induce faster healing.
