The traditional appointment with “Paziente diplomata”, the conference for women with and without breast cancer, is back at Humanitas and this year has reached its eighth edition.

Appointments can be made for Saturday, October 13, from 8:30 to 17, at the Congress Center of Humanitas.

The meeting is promoted by the Humanitas Cancer Center, in collaboration with the Italian School of Breast Medicine and with “Mamazone – Frauen und Forschung gegen Brustkrebs” and it is organized by Dr. Wolfgang Gatzemeier, Vice Director of the Breast Unit of Humanitas, Professor Claudio Andreoli, Director of the Italian School of Breast Medicine and Senologist of Humanitas, Dr. Emilia Marrazzo, Senologist of Humanitas, and Elena Bissolotti, Data Manager of Humanitas Cancer Center.

Breast cancer

More than 40 thousand new cases of breast cancer are registered every year in Italy. The research has made it possible to make enormous progress in the diagnosis and treatment of this tumor and has allowed a valuable improvement in prospects and quality of life.

Thanks to innovative and personalized treatment paths based on the specific clinical and biological characteristics of each patient, more and more women are now recovering from breast cancer. The new therapeutic possibilities have made the role of the patient even more central, who is increasingly involved in sharing choices regarding her illness.

Topics on the agenda

“Also this year we are ready to meet women, cancer and non cancer patients, to offer them updated information about prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

The day, as usual, will allow participants to interact and discuss with the speakers and other women present. We like to encourage the participation of women, so that they are increasingly aware of their role as protagonists in their own health, even in a delicate clinical path as that of breast cancer. In thinking about the meeting, we accepted the request of the participants of the last edition to devote space to the direct testimony of patients and breast plastic surgery. In addition, we have chosen to propose as a novelty the theme of epigenetics: we will try to understand together whether the choices we make (in terms of lifestyles) may or may not affect the expression of our genetic heritage,” stressed Dr. Gatzemeier.

Many themes are on the agenda:

  • The life-changing diagnosis.
  • Progress in genetic exploration.
  • Our genes control us, but who controls our genes?
  • Fighting disease with physical activity and healthy eating.
  • Breast surgery and body image.
  • Voice to patients
  • Progress in treatment: an alliance between women and doctors.

At the end of each session, participants will be able to ask questions, find answers to their questions and talk to the speakers.
