Hemianopia, represents decreased vision or blindness, characterized by impairment of half the visual field. The loss of half the visual field can be on the right or the left half (lateral or vertical hemianopia) or the upper or lower half (altitudinal or horizontal hemianopia).

Lesions of the optic chiasm (portion of the nervous system that is essential for a correct view) caused by various pathological conditions (cancer, intracranial hemorrhage, trauma, compression due to the presence of carotid aneurysms, etc.) are at the origin of this condition.
