The goal of aesthetic medicine is not only to eliminate cosmetic defects but to treat the whole person. The ultimate goal is to achieve a state of complete well-being for the patient. A well-being from both the physical point of view, as well as the mental and social.

In November, the Istituto Clinico Humanitas held the iCAMP (International College of Aesthetic Medicine Practical) congress. The congress hosted speeches from rejuvenation specialists, nutritionists, psychological and meditation teachers.

What is the project?

The creator of the project, Dr. Anna Maria Veronesi, explains that the patient should be considered in their entirety. This means evaluating both the physical aspect as well as the emotional. In other words the self-image that always underlies the feeling of satisfaction or dissatisfaction within oneself.

It must also emphasize the importance of integrating tools and expertise to solve imperfections and restore the harmony of psychological functions that affect aging.

The first step is always a visit to the doctor. The doctor evaluates the necessary approach in collaboration with nutritionists, psychologists and mental training experts.

These prominent professionals explain that interconnection is the strong point of the project. In fact, patients that seek treatment from an aesthetic doctor often also feel the urgency to feel in harmony with their appearance. Not just a desire to appear younger.

Mental and physical health: who are the specialists involved?

Emotions play a fundamental role in the human body, not only psychologically but also at the biochemical level. The immune system, the neuroendocrine system and emotional state become part of a dialogue that affects the balance of the whole organism.

Professor Vincenzo Soresi, author of “The Anarchist Brain”, published by UTET, explains the crucial role of emotions in managing beauty. Whilst negative emotions can manifest as blemishes and diseases. For aesthetic science to be effective a wholistic approach taking into account mental and physical health is necessary.

The project aims to instill a mental and emotional training in the patient, using relaxation and meditation techniques causing serenity. The psychologist ‘s task is to guide the patient to understand the real needs that lead to the desire to modify their bodies.

In addition, patients are scheduled to attend meetings with a nutritionist who highlights the relationship between food, deactivation of aging genes and activation of long life genes. Thanks to this type of aesthetic treatment as well as correcting a possible defect we also achieve the full satisfaction of the patient.
