Cyclizine is an antagonist of the histamine drug, a substance with intense vasodilating action at the capillary level, which causes contraction of the bronchial and gastrointestinal smooth muscle, stimulates gastric, salivary and lacrimal secretion, and it is an important humoral factor in allergic reactions. Histamine is able to block the H1-receptors (receptors that mediate inflammatory responses).

What is Cyclizine?

Cyclizine is administered as an anti-nausea drug in case of motion sickness (e.g. motion sickness, seasickness, airsickness).

How should Cyclizine be taken?

Cyclizine is administered orally.

Side effects associated with Cyclizine

Similar as in the case of the administration of other antagonist substances of H1 receptors, the major side effect is the blockage of the channel of potassium that leads to cardiac toxicity and ventricular arrhythmias. Other reported effects are drowsiness, constipation, dry mouth, urinary retention, rash, abdominal pain, dizziness, hypotension, dysfunctions in the menstrual cycle.

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Cyclizine

There have been reported cases of important interactions of the medication with certain antibiotics (increased plasma concentration of the drug and other major toxic effects). Interactions may occur even with drugs used for sedation, whose sedative effect may be increased.
