Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Darifenacin

Darifenacin is contraindicated in case of urinary retention, gastric retention, uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma or if you are at risk of developing one of these problems. It is also contraindicated in case of severe hepatic disorders or  if you are taking  potassium tablets.

 

Before starting treatment with darifenacin, it is important to tell your doctor if:

 

  • You have any allergies to the active substance, its excipients, or to any other drugs, food and various substances
  • You are taking any other medications, herbal remedies or supplements. Mentioning in particular:  potassium (taken orally via tablets), cimetidine, clarithromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, nefazodone, posaconazole, protease inhibitors, telithromycin, anticholinergics, flecainide, thioridazine or tricyclic antidepressants
  • You are suffering (or have suffered) from gastrointestinal problems, constipation, difficulty emptying the bladder, weak flow of urine, myasthenia gravis, increased pressure in the eye, glaucoma or liver problems
  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding

 

Darifenacin can potentially affect the ability to drive or operate hazardous machinery. This side effect can be aggravated by alcohol and certain other medications.
