Q: Does using Viagra cause heart risks?

A: There are no risks to the heart associated with the use of sildenafil (Viagra). Patients who take certain cardiac medications such as nitrates can experience severely low blood pressure if they use Viagra along with their usual therapy.  Therefore, it is advised that a cardiac patient being treated informs their doctor about using Viagra, their experience with it and the potentially dangerous associations it has when combined with other medications.
