The term lachrymation means an increase of the secretion of lacrimal. It can have many causes, ranging from the perception of pain for various causes (e.g. trauma), the presence of diseases (not just eye), to specific emotional states.

When the eyes are affected by tearing they can also manifest burning, itching and redness in and around the eyes , and usually there is an increase more or less abundant secretion of mucus nasal .

Depending on the condition that underlies it, the tearing can affect one eye or both.

 

What kind of diseases can be associated with lachrymation?

The following diseases may be associated with lachrymation:

  • Respiratory allergies
  • Astigmatism
  • Headache
  • Keratoconus
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Dacryocystitis
  • Glaucoma
  • Ophthalmic herpes zoster
  • Cat-scratch disease
  • Stye
  • Anger
  • Cold
  • Rosacea (or rosacea)
  • Trauma
  • Corneal ulcer
