Erosion of the skin is an injury borne by the most superficial part of the skin, characterized by the losses of parts of the epidermis. This can happen due to trauma, and if the conditions that cause the erosion are frequent dermatological pathologies, especially of infectious type. Erosions appear due to diseases of the vesicles, such as mouth ulcers (stomatitis) of the oral cavity. Also abrasions and ulcers are two of the most serious erosion of the skin.

 

What kind of diseases can be associated with skin erosions?

The following pathologies may be associated with skin erosions:

  • Epidermolysis bullosa
  • Herpes simplex
  • Pemphigus vulgaris
  • Porphyria

What is the therapy for skin erosion?

In most of the cases erosions do not require a specific treatment. In case of internal erosions this treatments are recommended for the stomatitis: rinses with water and sodium bicarbonate, use of ointments or gels painkillers, intake of supplements based on zinc and vitamin B12 .

In all other cases, for local use ointments are useful, based on antibiotics and agents that promote tissue regeneration. The area must be protected from air to prevent infections and to keep the area dry.

 

When is most likely to contact your doctor in case of skin erosion?

You must tell your doctor if the problem persists for more than 7-10 days, especially if it associated with fever, pain and other sudden symptoms.
